Objective 6.1 Veeam Recovery Orchestrator (VRO) components

On the official blueprint

β€’ Recovery Orchestrator installation
β€’ Recovery plans
β€’ Test plans
β€’ Failover
β€’ Failback
β€’ DataLabs: SureBackup labs, sandbox, automated testing
β€’ Recovery plan, compliance and audit reports

6.1.1 Veeam Recovery Orchestrator (VRO) components

β€’ Orchestrator Server service: manages orchestration plans, users and roles.
β€’ Orchestrator Web UI: the main interface.
β€’ Embedded Veeam ONE: VRO uses it for inventory and resource groups.
β€’ Connected VBR servers do the actual failover and restores. VRO automates and documents them.
β€’ A SQL Server database stores the configuration.

MEMORISE

Default Web UI address: https://<server>:9898.

TIP

Check this against the current v13 docs. This guide's VRO details come from VRO 7.x onboarding material. Check the v7 user guide for anything new in the version tied to the exam.

Official docs for 6.1 (1)

Objective 6.2 Orchestration plans

6.2.1 Orchestration plans

β€’ Replica plan Β· Recovers from: Veeam replicas (needs a replication job in VBR)
β€’ CDP replica plan Β· Recovers from: Veeam CDP replicas
β€’ Restore plan Β· Recovers from: Backups (needs a backup or backup copy job) into vSphere, at the original or an alternate location
β€’ Cloud plan Β· Recovers from: Backups restored as VMs in Azure
β€’ Storage plan Β· Recovers from: Replicated storage snapshots (NetApp, HPE)

Building a plan: scope β†’ plan type β†’ recovery location (restore plans) β†’ inventory groups β†’ VM recovery options β†’ plan steps (built-in steps plus custom PowerShell steps) β†’ credentials β†’ target RTO and RPO β†’ report template β†’ report schedule.

TRAP

Replica plans take placement, network and storage from the replication job in VBR. Restore plans use a recovery location defined in VRO.

Official docs for 6.2 (1)

Objective 6.3 Readiness checks, tests and running a plan

6.3.1 Readiness checks, tests and running a plan

β€’ Readiness check: fast and low-impact. Confirms the plan's configuration matches the DR environment and that restore points meet the target RPO. Runs automatically every day for enabled plans, or on demand.
β€’ DataLab test: actually recovers the plan's VMs into an isolated DataLab and runs the plan steps. On demand, or scheduled with the Lab Calendar.
β€’ Running a plan: Run, Schedule, Halt (stop mid-run) and Reset (clear the state so it can run again).
β€’ Replica plans: Failover β†’ then Undo failover, or Failback β†’ Commit failback / Undo failback.

MEMORISE

Order before you trust a plan: create β†’ readiness check β†’ DataLab test.

Official docs for 6.3 (1)

Objective 6.4 DataLabs

6.4.1 DataLabs

β€’ A DataLab is VRO's view of a VBR virtual lab, with a one-to-one link. Build the virtual lab in VBR first.
β€’ SureBackup labs: verification of recoverability.
β€’ Sandbox: an on-demand isolated copy of production for dev/test, patch testing or security analysis.
β€’ Automated testing: scheduled plan tests through the Lab Calendar.

TRAP

No virtual lab in VBR = no DataLab in VRO.

Official docs for 6.4 (1)

Objective 6.5 Reports

6.5.1 Reports

β€’ Plan Definition Β· When it is produced: Describes the whole plan. Updated automatically every day for enabled plans.
β€’ Plan Readiness Check Β· When it is produced: After each readiness check
β€’ DataLab Test Β· When it is produced: After each test, with per-VM results and timing
β€’ Plan Execution Β· When it is produced: After a real run (failover or restore)

Reports come from a Word template. Clone and edit it to add your logo or text. They serve as compliance and audit evidence that DR was tested and works.
